With the release of the new Far Cry 6 expansion Lost Between Worlds, Art Director David Clement and team reflect on the journey from creative concept art to stunning in-game visuals and the collaborative process in between.
Yara is looking very different these days.
From exploring a fractured and otherworldly environment, to facing menacing enemies called Shardfaces, to exciting new chromatic combat and gear, Lost Between Worlds is as much a thrilling gameplay challenge as it is a treat for the eyes.
“The goal was to take the familiar elements of Yara and shatter them, making something new, exciting, and fresh but familiar,” says Art Director David Clement. “We wanted to go more surreal, feel more strange and impart a sense of wonder to the player. [Make them] feel like they have stepped into a painting that is beautiful and inviting but in a slightly terrifying way.”

David also shares his thoughts on some memorable art from the project:
Branko Bistrovic painted this key concept that helped define the look of the Lost Between Worlds identity for the team.
Lighting really brought the drama, with Adriano Grasso playing up the punchy purple safe zones, bringing surrealism and intensity to the DLC.
Victor Rucareanu’s work on one of our most exciting rifts is a sight to behold, violent shape language pushing the player to run for their lives.
“For this venture, we also wanted to extend artistic ideas and content beyond the visual wrapper from Far Cry 6. We offered this opportunity to the team and received many fresh and creative ideas, which allowed Lost Between Worlds to become a very rewarding and empowering experience across the team,” David says.
