“WIFT-T, in partnership with Ubisoft Toronto, is thrilled to offer a mentorship that promotes innovation and creativity in our rapidly evolving digital media industry,” said Heather Webb, WIFT-T Executive Director. “As technology advances, we firmly believe it is vital for WIFT-T to continue nurturing our storytellers and content creators by providing access to skills that build interconnectivity between media.”
“The best games are made when there are successful collaborations between team members of varying perspectives and expertise. We can strengthen the game industry by continuing to find ways to diversify our teams, especially by attracting more women to game development,” says Lesley Phord-Toy, Producer at Ubisoft Toronto. “By giving women opportunities to explore game production through programs like the Ubisoft Toronto Producer Mentorship, our goal is to motivate, inspire and raise awareness with young talent about the career possibilities available in games.”
As the recipient of the Ubisoft Toronto Producer Mentorship, O’Hara will experience everything from a performance capture shoot to an inside look at the processes involved in creating AAA quality games. The mentorship will provide O’Hara with an opportunity to experience the latest gaming innovation, make exceptional contacts at a leading video game studio, and understand how to cross pollinate ideas from one screen to the next.
“Being selected for this mentorship honestly feels like a dream come true,” said Chelsea O’Hara, the 2015 Ubisoft Toronto Producer Mentorship recipient. “Twelve-year-old me is freaking out with excitement right now. Thank you friends and family for your ongoing support, and special thanks to Ubisoft Toronto and WIFT-T for making this opportunity possible!”
